CHAMPAGNE SPECIALIST COURSE

Understanding and recommending Champagne 

 

  • Training for wine merchants, sommeliers or other professionals of SDEN 3, SDEN4 or WSET 2-3 level

 

  • The focus is on practice, through workshops and tastings, with a need for interactivity and active participation

  • Developing consulting skills required for professional activities as recommending, serving, selling and purchasing Champagne wines and managing a cellar                                                              

  • All classes, will be held in the English language; the coursebook and exam are also in the English language.

  • Extra online support for Champagne & food combinations and for level 2 students on March 16+23.

  • Coffee breaks with snacks and fruit included.

  • Prices exclude VAT. For private customers an invoice without VAT is optional.

What SKILLS are COVEREd?

  • Understanding the Champagne viticulture (terroir, climate, grape varieties, winegrowing) and vinification

  • Understanding and interpreting Champagne wine labels

  • Pairing food and Champagne and making a Champagne wine list

  • Assess the various styles by describe quality and production method

  • Storing Champagne in optimal conditions

  • Improve your tasting technique. During each session you will taste a minimum of 5 Champagnes.

  • Practical application and workshops during each session

THE DURATION:

  • More than 14 hours of classes, studying the handbook and making assignments

THE FINAL ASSESSMENT

The final assessment will be held at the end of the last session

Theoretical test – 1 hour

  • 30 Multiple choice (30 minutes – 30 points)

  • 2 open questions (30 minutes – 30 points)

Practical test – 1 hour

  • Tasting of two non-anonymized wines (40 points)

For each wine, the Candidate must describe the tasting characteristics using the tasting sheets provided. The Candidate must then write a positive presentation for the client. Finally, the Candidate must propose a harmonious food and Champagne pairing and explain their choice.

 

Validation (the official score will be received in about 5 weeks after the assessment):

  • Less than 54%: not validated

  • 55% to 69%: Pass

  • 70% to 79%: Good

  • More than 80%: Excellent
